Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak
What once seemed to be the stuff of science fiction ? a car that can safely operate without direct input from a driver ? is rapidly moving from the realm of science fiction toward reality. This is being clearly demonstrated with the Pikes Peak Autonomous Audi TTS coupe research project, which has become a sensation worldwide. The vehicle features a pair of trunk-located computers that allow the Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak to drive on the very edge of its speed and handling limits on a variety of surfaces, including mountainous conditions, without a driver. The Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak was developed with the Stanford University Dynamic Design Lab and the Audi Electronic Research Laboratory.

Auto Shows 2010 Geneva Auto Show

The 2010 Geneva Auto Show will be featuring the Audi A1, the A8 Hybrid, the show car A1 e-tron, the RS5 and 30 years of quattro®.

Audi A1
Audi is introducing a whole new dimension to the compact class this summer. It is dynamic and high quality, emotional and individual. It condenses all of the virtues of the brand down to less than four meters - a design full of character, uncompromising quality and pioneering efficiency technologies. The agile chassis and powerful engines make the A1 the sportiest car in the segment.
The young customers of the A1 live in major cities and therefore are looking for a vehicle that is designed for the urban environment. Thanks to its compact dimensions, it is very agile and nimble in city traffic and offers a high degree of everyday utility.

The interior of the A1 is also sporty and of high quality. Customers can customize numerous details to tailor the car to their personal tastes. Audi's latest model has a broad portfolio of advanced technologies on board; its infotainment system sets new standards in the segment. The A1 is the first premium automobile in the small compacts class - a true, fully-fledged Audi.

The Audi brand stands for automotive passion. With its agile chassis and powerful engines, the A1 is the sportiest car in its class, and this is readily apparent at first glance. The design is unique and modern. Styling cues placing the A1 in the Audi family include the side line with the distinctive roof arch, the coupe-like C-pillars, the large wheel wells and, of course, the front end with the typical single-frame grille. The hood and rear hatch encompass the body; the tail lights are three-dimensionally molded and present an unmistakable design, day or night.

  A8 Hybrid
Power like a big V6, fuel economy like a modest four-cylinder unit - Audi presents the A8 hybrid as a technology concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Its two propulsion units - a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor - develop a total output of 245 hp of system power and 354.03 lb-ft of torque. This enables the Audi A8 hybrid to accelerate in 7.6 seconds from zero to 62.14 MPH and to achieve a top speed of 146.02 MPH. Yet its average fuel consumption amounts to only 37.94 MPG per 62 miles - the CO2 equivalent is 231.75 grams per mile.

Audi A1 etron
The new e-tron model series from Audi will gain another new member at the Geneva Motor Show: The Audi A1 e-tron is a Mega City Vehicle (MCV) with an innovative drive technology. It comes equipped with a powerful electric motor for zero-emission driving in the city. There is also an internal combustion engine on board that recharges the battery in exceptional circumstances. The A1 e-tron is very agile thanks to the 102 hp peak power of its electric motor.

The e-tron model family from Audi is just a few months old, but it already has a number of members, for each of which Audi has chosen a different drive technology. The first e-tron, which debuted at the 2009 IAA in Frankfurt/Main, is a near-series high-performance sports car with electric motors for all four wheels. The study shown at the Detroit Motor Show in 2010 is a lightweight, compact two-seater with two electric motors on the rear axle.

The A1 e-tron now presents another approach - a compact electric car in the premium class. The four-passenger, two-door MCV city car was designed specifically for use in the metropolitan areas of Europe and North America and in the rapidly growing megacities of Asia and South America. The Audi A1 e-tron always drives on electric power; its internal combustion engine is only used to recharge the battery in isolated cases.

The integration of the new technologies shows the holistic approach that Audi is pursuing with electric mobility. The objective is to use the energy with the lowest possible losses. The precise interaction of the components, their intelligent packaging, and the efficient management of the current flows are the product of the expertise that the company has developed in this area.

Behind the three e-tron models is a broadly diverse and modular technology platform that continues to grow very rapidly as Audi drives development forward.

Audi RS5

Unbridled power lurking in a classically elegant coupé: the Audi RS 5 will debut at the Geneva Auto Show. The high-revving 4.2-liter V8 with its 450 hp unleashes powerful performance while achieving remarkable fuel economy. The seven-speed S tronicS tronicS tronic, Audi's revolutionary direct shift gearbox (formerly DSG) combines the advantages of a conventional six-speed manual-shift gearbox with the qualities possessed by a modern automatic transmission.S tronic and an innovative center differentialCenter DifferentialTo compensate for the different wheel velocities between the front and rear suspensions, quattro® permanent all-wheel drive has an additional center differential between the front and rear suspensions. Center Differential in the quattro drivetrainDrivetrainThe drivetrain includes all the moving parts of a vehicle: the engine, clutch, transmission, driveshaft, differential, axles, and sometimes the wheels.Drivetrain transmit power to all four wheels.

Developed by quattro GmbH, the RS models comprise the dynamic spearhead of Audi's model range. The RS 5 is the latest torchbearer in a tradition dating back over 15 years to the RS 2 Avant: superior handling in the mid-size class.

2011 NORTH AMERICAN AUTO SHOW

A variant of the electric vehicle, the Detroit showcar Audi e-tron was unveiled at the first major autoshow of 2010. Also showcased was the new A8, Audi's flagship sedan.

The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron

Audi is showing an uncompromising purist compact sports car with all-electric drive at the first major auto show of 2010. The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is the name of this 3.93 meter (154.72 in) long and 1.78 meter (70.08 in) wide but just 1.22 meter (48.03 in) tall two-seater; just a few months after the debut of the Audi e-tron at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, this is now the second electric concept vehicle from the brand with the four rings.

Coupled with the Detroit showcar Audi e-tron's low gross weight of around only 1,350 kilograms (2976.24 lb), high-torque power units driving the rear wheels guarantee commensurate road performance. Two electric motors with a combined output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 2,650 Nm (1954.54 lb-ft) accelerate the coupe with ASF-design aluminum bodyAluminum BodyThe Audi A8 is the first North American car with an aluminum body built according to the Audi Space Frame® principle. Aluminum Body from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.9 seconds. The Audi e-tron accomplishes the sprint from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 - 74.56 mph) in a mere 5.1 seconds.

The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is able to distribute its electric motors' high torqueTorqueTorque is what causes rotational speed to change. Just as greater net forces cause greater linear accelerations, greater torques cause greater rotational or angular accelerations.Torque between the wheels entirely as required. Its "torque vectoring" is the key to a thrilling level of active precision and excellent traction. Thanks also to its low weight, short wheelbase and perfect weight distribution for dynamic handling, the Audi e-tron has all the drivability of a go-kart - agile, good on bends and neutral right up to the very high handling limit.
Lithium-ion batteries, located for an optimal center of gravity behind the passenger compartment and ahead of the rear axle, make an effective energy content of 45 kilowatt-hours available. This makes an operating range of up to 250 kilometers (155.34 miles) realistically possible.

As previously with the first e-tron concept car shown in Frankfurt, Audi again bases all components in this electric vehicle on an integral concept with many revolutionary details: a heat pump as an efficient means of heating up and maintaining the interior temperature. The drive system, power electronics and battery have innovative thermal management - crucial for maintaining a high operating range coupled with outstanding interior comfort.

The New Flagship for Audi: The Audi A8

Audi has launched the next generation of the A8 - the sportiest sedan of the luxury class sets new standards. Its elegantly styled body with the Audi Space Frame (ASF) is aluminum, the engines are powerful and highly efficient, and the power transmission and running gear combine dynamics with convenience. The new flagship's generously designed interior captivates with its luxurious equipment, newly developed control system MMI and the excellent quality of its workmanship. Innovative assistance systems lend even more confidence to driving.

"Audi Ices a Mighty 3 by Shedding Price, and Even Power"
by Aaron Robinson, Car and Driver, November 2009

"The compact 3.0-liter engine, bolted longitudinally, its center point just forward of the front axle line, also has every ounce of the BMW's refinement, chasing its 7000-rpm redline with vibe-free gusto."

"We don't know which to applaud more, the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tires or the active rear differential, which pushes one side or the other to aim the car. This active diff is so pronounced on a skidpad that it feels like four-wheel steering. Either way, the S4's grip path control is dazzling and convincingly outclasses the 335i."

"Little Luxuries"
by Edward Loh, Motor Trend, July 2009

"The real secret is Audi's Drive Select system, which provides four distinct and delectable driving modes-auto, dynamic, comfort, and individual (user customizable)."

"Its dynamic mode not only serves up quicker gear shifts and snappier throttle response, it tightens the Audi's steering and shock dampening."

"Even when left in auto or set to the softest comfort setting, the Q5 still manages to humble the other three on S-22"

"Off-road, the Q5 feels right at home. The structure is solid and secure as the rig climbs through the rough stuff, quattro adeptly metering out toque,"

Audi A4 - all-new driving candy

"Some cars simply feel good; almost indescribably good. You can't wait to get behind the wheel. Detours become more the rule than the exception. Every extra mile in the driver's seat is like slowly and deliciously consuming a bar of rich chocolate after being on a six-month no-sweets diet. That's the way it is with the all-new-for-2009 Audi A4. This is a sedan that's a delight to drive in any guise and a pleasure to look at." - Times Record News

2009 Audi A6 3.0T quattro® Review

Need an example of excellence in a mid-sized luxury sedan? Look no further than the Audi A6. And in particular, look at the 2009 Audi A6 3.0T quattro.

The 3.0T quattro is a new addition to the A6 sedan lineup this year, fitting between the front-wheel drive 3.2 FSI and the V8-powered 4.2 FSI quattro models, "quattro" being Audi's performance-oriented full-time all-wheel drive system. The numeric designator denotes the engine capacity in liters, and why would a 3.0 be above a 3.2?

Notice that "T" after... which has meant "turbo", for Audi performance enhancement since the original Quattro rally car homologation special of the early 1980s. The smaller A3 and A4 have 2.0T models with 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder engines, so one might be thinking "misprint" when reading 3.0T. After all, a decade ago, the A6 used a 2.8-liter V6 with essentially the same horsepower as the current 2.0T.

CONCLUSIONS: Audi has another gem in the A6 3.0T
