From the very beginning, advanced technology has been at the very heart of the Audi DNA. In practice, this means the relentless pursuit of new and better solutions to the automotive challenges of an ever-changing world. From quattro® all-wheel-drive to FSI® Direct Injection, Truth in Engineering means safer, more efficient, and more brilliantly satisfying cars to drive.
Audi revolutionized vehicle lighting with the first full-LED headlamps appearing on the Audi R8 in 2008. Today, the use of LED technology helps create a look that's iconic and unmistakably Audi?even in the dark of night. LED headlights are not only 50% more efficient than conventional headlights, but are also the closest approximation to natural daylight of any car on the road. Providing you with safety as you take to the dusky roads. The night won't ever be the same again.
BRILLIANT BY DESIGN

Although only one square millimeter in size, a light emitting diode (LED) can generate a remarkable amount of white light. It's an attribute that opens up spectacular styling opportunities for Audi designers. Several tiny diodes can be combined to create infinite shapes and arrangements, imbuing each Audi vehicle with its own signature look. From customizable interior ambient lighting to distinctive daytime running lights, Audi designers have rethought the way vehicles are lit inside and out.
THE CLOSEST RECREATION TO DAYLIGHT YET
Imagine you're driving late at night down a twisty road. Something emerges from the inky shadows into the lane ahead. Your eyes strain to make out the object in utter darkness. That's where Audi LED headlight technology comes in. Producing a color temperature of 5,500 on the Kelvin scale, the light shining on the road ahead approximates the color temperature of daylight. Your eyes perceive more contrast. They relax. And with a nicely illuminated road, so can you.
DESGNED TO BEAT TROUBLE TO THE PUNCH
|
LED taillight technology goes on fast and bright, reacting ten times faster than conventional bulbs. That means if a trailing driver can notice the brake lights of the leading car sooner, that driver's reaction time can be quickened, potentially resulting in a shorter stopping distance. Another fast-acting feature, the available high-beam assistant, can decide for itself when it's sensible to use the high-beam headlights. It automatically detects the headlights of oncoming traffic and the rear lights of other road users and varies the range and width of the headlights between dipped and full beam according to the road situation. Trouble really doesn't stand a chance.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

During their first year of operation, cars equipped with LED daytime running light technology sold by Audi saved around 25,000 tons of CO2. That's not just a load of hot air. Since LEDs are four times as efficient as halogen bulbs, they require the vehicle's alternator to replenish less energy, which in turn saves fuel and curtails carbon emissions. In addition, LED headlight technology is zero maintenance and designed for the life of the vehicle.
